John Sargeant

J. Sergeant, who served with the Welsh Regiment, 8th Battalion, is commemorated on the Swansea Cenotaph. He died on the 11th of July 1916 and is buried at Amara War Cemetery in Iraq.

Interestingly, the St. Paul’s Church War Memorial in Swansea bears the name John Sargeant. This may be the same individual, though the variation in spelling makes absolute confirmation uncertain. If so, his inclusion on both the Swansea Cenotaph and the St. Paul’s Memorial reflects the lasting remembrance of a man who gave his life in service with the Welsh Regiment during the Great War.
