The British four masted barque AMAZON, Capt. A. Garrick, left Port Talbot on August 31st, 1908, for Chile with a cargo of coal. A heavy gale sprang up overnight and the ship anchored in Mumbles Roads. In the morning of September 1st, the anchor cables parted, and the ship drove ashore on Port Talbot beach. The masts went by the board and the ship broke up amidships and settled into the sand. Seven of her crew of 25 were saved, 6 bodies were washed up at Port Talbot and the bodies of Capt.

SS BOBIE was a British cargo steamer that was involved in a collision and sank with the ANDELLE in Swansea Bay on the 30th January 1942. She was on route from Waterford for Swansea. Owned since 1937 by Walter H. McEwan, Gibraltar.

SV BRECHIN CASTLE was a barque of 371 tons. Built at Dundee, 1844. Master T.R.Baxter. She left Adelaide for Swansea and London late in October 1846 with passengers and a cargo of copper ore but was wrecked on the Welsh coast near Mumbles Head, 20 February 1847. All passengers and crew lost, estimated to number between twenty and twenty-six.

The British cargo ship SS BRODLAND was wrecked on January 20th, 1913, on Aberavon Beach. She was on a voyage from Port Talbot to Punta Arenas with a cargo of coal.

In the evening of April 23rd, 1947, the British lifeboat EDWARD, PRINCE OF WALES, coming to the rescue of the wrecked SAMTAMPA,  was lost with all of her crew of eight in very heavy weather.

The next day, on 24th, the wreck of the EDWARD, PRINCE OF WALES was found, smashed up and upside down, ashore at Sker Rocks, Glamorgan. As per tradition, the lifeboat EDWARD, PRINCE OF WALES was burned in situ a few days later.

The steamship SS FORT MEDINE (formerly French, seized at Falmouth 7-1940 by Great Britain), struck a mine and broke in two. Both sections sank. Was on route from Wabana fort Port Talbot with a cargo of iron ore.

On the 4th November 1941 the ‘MADJOR, a Dutch coaster under the command of Capt. J. Oorburg, was leaving Port Talbot Docks for Sharpness with a cargo of coal. She was almost clear of the outer channel buoy when she hit a mine and sank. The crew of four men and two gunners were lost in the incident, along with the local pilot, Capt. George Fairweather.

PROTESILAUS was a British Merchant Steamer of 9.577 tons built in 1910 and owned by Holt & Co, Alfred. China Mutual Steam Navigation Co Ltd. On the 21st January 1940 when on route from Liverpool for Barry in ballast she hit a mine laid by U-28 and beached. PROTESILAUS was beached at Mumbles where she broke in two.
The bow was refloated 20th July 1940 and towed to Briton Ferry.
Temporarily repaired, the stern part was sent to Scapa Flow to be sunk as a blockship but developed serious leak en route and was scuttled near Skerryvore.

On 23 April 1945, at 15:35, the German submarine U-1023 fired two LUT torpedoes at convoy TBC-135, off St. Ives, the Bristol Channel. The SS RIVERTON was damaged and beached in St. Ives Bay. The stern broke off and sank. The fore part was towed to Swansea in August 1945, the ship repaired and returned to service. Later becoming the EFTYCHIA and in 1965 the Hong Kong BOAZ. Broken up in 1969.

PS: note that Swansea Bay is where the wreck part should be, while according to the history, she broke in two parts in St. Ives Bay.
