What records are there?
John Scott was born at Quoile, County Down. Elizabeth was born at St. Coloum, Cornwall.

The first record is the marriage certificate of both John and Elizabeth. They were to be married at St. James church, Uplands. They were both of full age, over 21. John’s father, also a John Scott, who was a Mariner. Elizabeth’s father was James Truscott, who was a Victualler. At the time of the marriage, John’s residence was Quoile, while Elizabeth resided at Packet House, Strand.

The first census in which they are both listed is in the 1851. They were living at the Packet House. John, 39, his occupation is Inn Keeper. Elizabeth, 35, who didn’t have an occupation. Also present is their son, J. James aged 9, whose place of birth is Ireland.
Also present are four visitors, Carolin Clark, 30; Thomas Thomas,
58, Baptist Minister; James Jose, 40, Druggist and John Jones, 28, Surgeon. Along with three servants, Rachel Roberts,
20; Mary Ann Stanton, 21 and Caroline Cose, 19.

The following decade, 1861, the couple were residing at 78 Bryn Awel, Llansamlet. John’s occupation is listed as Master Mariner.

The 1871 Census, the couple are residing at 41 Mumbles Road, John’s occupation is listed as Lodging House Keeper

It’s the National Probate Calendar, which lists the Will, of John, who died May 1879. John of “Gower” Inn, Parkmill, left an estate to his wife, Elizabeth.
Following John’s death, Elizabeth became the Landlady.
At the time of the 1881 Census, Elizabeth, 66, is living
with here sister, Caroline Couch, 60, who is also widower and her daughter, Elizabeth
Hannah Staunton Couch, 19. Also present
is two servants, Mary Davies, 18 and Mary Jane Atkins, 19. Also a visitor, Catherine Ewart Poole, 21.

By the time of the 1891 Census, Elizabeth Scott, 75, is living with her sister Louisa Knight, 74 at 5 Alexandra Terrace, Oystermouth. Louisa’s occupation is listed as Hotel Keeper. Also, resident at the property is Elizabeth Hannah Staunton Couch, 29 along with servant, Rosa Lang, 15 and a visitor, Mary Ann Jones, 75.

There are very little records for John James Scott
The first record is an Apprentices Indenture in the Merchant
Navy. 1856, John aged 15 would serve his
apprenticeship on Seaforth.

John was awarded his certificate for Master and Mates during 1869.

John married Emily Andrews, January 1874 at St. Mary's, Pennard.

Both John and Emily were over 21, John’s father is the John Scott. Emily was a widow and her father, John Bedford, Solicitor

Emily,
Emily, however, is listed on the 1871 Census

Emily is resident at 12 Nelson Terrace, with her husband Philip, 43, Brewer. Also present are their three daughters, Jane W., 18, Elizabeth J., 15, and Mary E., 13. Along with a servant, Martha Evans, 23. Emily place of birth is recorded as Leominster. They were married during 1869 at Leominster.
What became of the daughters?
Emily died 1886 and it is the National Probate Calendar
which lists the Will, of Emily, of “Gower” Inn, Parkmill, left an estate to her
husband, John. John who died 1890, left
a Will with an estate to his mother, Elizabeth.
