Daniel John Jones

Daniel John Jones, an Able Seaman with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, lost his life aboard H.M.S. Vanguard on 9 July 1917.
Daniel who was born on the 1890, was the son of John and Ann
Jones.
At the time of the 1891 Census, the Jones family were residing
at 131 Gendros.

John, aged 38, was employed as a Coal Miner, while Ann was aged 33.
Daniel, their only child at the time, was aged 1.
The 1901 Census, records that the family had moved to 41
Fern Street.

John, aged 44, was employed as a Coal Miner, while Ann was
aged 39.
Their three children were
Daniel, aged 12; William E., aged 8, and Mary O., aged 5.
The 1911 Census, records that the family were residing at Brydwen
Villas, Raven Hill

John, aged 56, was employed as Coal Miner Hewer, while Ann
was aged 49.
Their children were
Daniel John, aged 22; William Evan, aged 18, who were both
employed as a Coal Miner Labourer (under).
Mary Olwen, aged 15, who was employed as a Servant, and Howell Glyn, aged
6.

July 1913, the ship Royal Edward, arrived as Quebec, one of its passengers was Daniel. The incoming passenger lists records that Daniel’s occupation is a Miner.
Three years later, 1916, Daniel, married Harriet Maud Hughes.
The previous year, August, Daniel had enlisted Royal Naval
Volunteer Reserve.

Daniel saw action on Victory I, a Shore Establishment, November 1915, which followed with action on board the Neptune, November to December 1915. The last action was on board the Vanguard, December 1915 to its sinking July 1917.
