William John Hopkins

H.M.S. Vanguard 

 The second victim from the sinking of the H.M.S. Vanguard was Able Seaman William John Hopkins

William was born in 1894 and was the son of John and Elizabeth Kate Hopkins.

The 1901 Census records that the Hopkins family were residing at 264 Gendros

John, aged 29 was employed as a Coal Miner Hewer while Elizabeth K., is aged 27.  Their children are

William J., aged 11; Edward, aged 6; Ivor, aged 3, and Elizabeth C., aged 1.

The 1911 Census records that the family had moved and they were living at Armine Road, Fforestfach.

John, aged 39 is employed as a Coal Miner Hewer, while Elizabeth Kate is aged 37.  Their children are

William John, aged 17 is employed as a Mason Labourer; Edwrd, aged 16, is employed as Miner Labourer; Ivor, aged 13; Elizabeth Ceinwen, aged 11; Elvet, aged 8; Elwyn Samuel, aged 4, who all attend school.
