British Monarch was a 5,661‑ton cargo steamer, completed in 1923 by Napier & Miller of Old Kilpatrick (Yard No. 236) for the Monarch S.S. Co. (Raeburn & Verel) of Glasgow.

On 19th June 1940, while on passage from Bougie to Glasgow with a cargo of iron ore, British Monarch was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U‑48. All 40 members of her crew were lost.
