Michael Moogan: The Wandering Tinsmith of Fforestfach
Michael Moogan—now in his 105th year—was born in Ireland and came to Wales as a young lad seeking work and a place to call home. A lifelong tinsmith, he spent decades roaming the countryside, living simply in a tent or caravan, moving wherever his trade or the seasons carried him. Still remarkably active despite his great age, Michael is presently camped at Fforestfach, a familiar figure to many who know his quiet, itinerant way of life.
This brief but striking portrait was published by the South Wales Daily Post in July 1926, accompanied by a photograph showing the venerable traveller in his encampment. (Photo by D. J. Campbell.)
