Opposition in Mumbles to Proposed Swansea Union
Local sentiment in Mumbles remains firmly opposed to any suggestion of joining Swansea. Coun. F. E. Beer, chairman of the Oystermouth District Council, told the Daily Post that the majority of residents would resist such a move, especially in light of the district’s comparatively low rates, which continue to fall year by year.South Wales Daily Post
Mr. Robinson, clerk to the Oystermouth Council, confirmed that opinion within Mumbles is “decidedly against” inclusion in the borough. Among the reasons frequently cited is dissatisfaction with Swansea’s handling of sewage matters, an issue that has long coloured local attitudes.
Enquiries made at Llangennith reveal a similar stance, with residents there also expressing clear opposition to any proposal that would bring them under Swansea’s authority.
