Mook War Cemetery - Patrick Gordon Davies

 

He was only 17 and a half when he joined the Welsh Guards, 1st Battalion 1943.

Guardsman Patrick Gordon Davies was the son of Gordon Lloyd and Helen Davies

Gordon married Helen Bain in 1924 at Birmingham South, Warwickshire.

Gordon Lloyd is recorded in both the 1901 and 1911 censuses.

In 1901, the Davies family lived at 1 Malvern Terrace. Llewellyn Davies, 39, was a Chief Sanitary Inspector. He was born in Hirwain, Breconshire, and Elizabeth, 39, was born in Newport.

Their children were William Llewellyn Probert Davies, 15; Ida Gwendoline Probert Davies, 11; Benjamin Frederick Davies, 6 and 10-month-old Gordon Lloyd.  The three older children were born in Cardiff, whilst Gordon was born in Swansea.

By the 1911 Census, the family was residing at 28 Brynymor Crescent.

Llewellyn Davies, 47, is still employed as Chief Sanitary Inspector.  Elizabeth is 46.  Ida Gwendoline, 21, and 10-year-old Gordon are the only children still living at home.

Benjamin emigrated to the United States of America and during the Second World War, had a Draft Registration Card issued.

Ida Gwendoline Probert married in 1913 to Harold Louis Schleswick.

By the time of the 1939 Register, the couple were living and running the Post Office at Penmaen.

Patrick Gordon Davies lost his life in the fighting in the village of Mook, in February 1945, when the Germans made an advancement into the village. Patrick is buried at Mook War Cemetery.  He is also commemorated on his family grave at Bethel.
