This cake first baked during 1884 as to celebrate the marriage between Prince Louis of Battenburg and Princess Victoria of Hesse and the Rhine, Queen Victoria’s granddaughter and Prince Phillip’s grandmother.
The origins of the cake seem very unclear early recipes alternative names of the cake were been used such as “Domino Cake” a recipe by Agnes Bertha Marshall, 1898 and “Neapolitan Roll” a recipe by Robert Wells, 1898. Today, Battenberg cake is manufactured by Lyons
Prince Louis of Battenberg full name and title were Admiral
of the Fleet Louis Alexander Mountbatten, 1st Marquess of Milford

During 1893, that Prince Louis of Battenberg visited Swansea,
where he was driven to Mumbles to inspect the fort at the lighthouse.
