Romania Adopted – 26th June 1848 24th April 1867 27th December
1989 |
|
Description |
|
Three equal vertical bands of
cobalt blue (hoist side), chrome yellow, and vermilion red; modelled after
the flag of France, the colours are those of the principalities of Walachia
(red and yellow) and Moldavia (red and blue), which united in 1862 to form
Romania; the national coat of arms that used to be centred in the yellow band
has been removed Note: now
similar to the flag of Chad, whose blue band is darker; also resembles the
flags of Andorra and Moldova |

Russia Adopted – 1700 (for Vessels) 1883 (for land uses) 22nd August 1991
(de fecto restored) 1st November
1991 (de jurre restored) 11th December
1993 (current design) |
|
Description |
|
Three equal horizontal bands of
white (top), blue, and red Note: the colours
may have been based on those of the Dutch flag; despite many popular
interpretations, there is no official meaning assigned to the colours of the
Russian flag; this flag inspired several other Slav countries to adopt
horizontal tricolours of the same colours but in different arrangements, and
so red, blue, and white became the Pan-Slav colours |
