Fusilier Daniel Jones – Royal Welch Fusiliers, 9th Battalion

Early Life

1939 Register 

Daniel Jones
was born in 1922, the son of Frank and Margaret Jones of Port Tennant, Swansea. The 1939 Register records Frank and Margaret living at 10 Lamberts Cottages, Port Tennant. Frank was employed as a dock worker with the Great Western Railway, recorded as a heavy worker.

Military Service

At a young age, Daniel enlisted with the Royal Welch Fusiliers, serving in the 9th Battalion. His service was cut tragically short, and very few records survive due to his age and the circumstances of his death.

Death

South Wales Evening Post
On 25th April 1940, Daniel died while stationed at an R.A.F. base in Hampshire. He was only 18 years old. His death was reported in the South Wales Evening Post, one of the few contemporary accounts that noted his service and sacrifice.
