Richard Evans
The Mystery of Richard Evans
Among the names inscribed on the St Paul’s memorial is Richard Evans. His identity, however, remains unclear.
Complicating matters further, there is also a Richards Evans commemorated on the Swansea Cenotaph, listed under the “Army” section. It is not certain whether this is the same man or whether two different individuals are being remembered.
At present, no definitive census or military records have been found that firmly link a Richard Evans to Sketty. Without clear family connections, service details, or Commonwealth War Graves Commission entries to draw upon, his story remains elusive.
What is certain is that his name was chosen for remembrance by the community of St Paul’s. Even without the full details of his life and service, the presence of his name on the memorial ensures that Richard Evans is honoured among those who gave their lives during the Great War.
