Birth and Family Background

William Douglas Chivers was born in 1923. He was the son of William James Chivers and Theresa Ethel Chivers Davey, who were married in 1910.

1921 Census

At the time of the 1921 Census, his parents were residing at The Bungalow, Caswell. William James Chivers (47), born in Breconshire, was employed as a wholesale grocer, while his wife Theresa Ethel (34), born in Cardiff, undertook household duties.

1939 Register

The only surviving official record for William Douglas Chivers is the 1939 Register, which records him as a student studying at Wycliffe College, Lampeter.

Military Service

William Douglas Chivers served in the British Army as a Private with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps.

Illness and Death

South Wales Daily Post 
The South Wales Daily Post reported in August 1947 that William Douglas Chivers had died on 31st July 1947, the previous day. The report stated that he had seen active service in Germany following the end of the Second World War, but later fell ill and was returned home to a military hospital.

William subsequently died at his parents’ home, Monk’s Gate, Langland Road.
