Daniel Lovering was born in 1869/70, in Neath.
At the time of the 1871 Census, Daniiel, then aged 2 years
old was the youngest child of William and Frances Lovering.
William had married firstly in 1842, to Mary Ladd, at St.
John-juxta church, Swansea. Mary died in
1849. William then married Frances Lewis.
By the time the census, the Lovering family were living at
Slaughter House Lane, Neath.

William, who was 48 years, was employed as Tin Meeler in the
Tin Works, whilst Frances was 40 years, and she was employed also in the Tin Works.
Their children were William, 18; John, 14; Martha, 11;
Thomas E., 7; George, 4; Ellen, 3, and 2-year-old Daniel.
Their eldest daughter, Mary, 23 had married James Denick,
who was a Painter.
A decade later, at the time of the 1881 Census, William, who
is 58, who is employed as a Cabinet Maker, is a lodger at 74 Church Street,
Neath,

The rest of the family are living at 16 Pleasant Street,
Neath.
Frances now Fanny, is 48.
The children that are present at home are William, 28, a
Doubler in Tin Works; George, 14, a Catcher in Tin Works; Ellen, 13; Daniel,
12, a Coal Miner, and 9-year-old Catherine.
Also present was a boarder, Thomas Evans, 18, a Pickler in
Tin Works.
Daniel Lovering at the time of the 1891 Census had enlisted and
he was present at the Raglan Barracks, Stoke Damerel, Devon.

1899, Daniel married Emily Margaret Gregg at Merthyr Tydfil.
1908, now ranked as a Colour Sergeant, Daniel has been
discharged from the Army and is receipt of a pension.
The couple moved back to Wales by the time of the 1911
Census, where they were living at Victoria Inn, High Street, Dowlais, Merthyr
Tydfil.

When the First World War, Daniel enlisted and was ranked
Quatermaster Serjeant and served with The King’s (Liverpool Regiment), 8th
Battalion.
Following his death, Emily moved to 24 Seward Street,
Penydarren, Merthyr Tydfil.
At the time of the 1921 Census, Emily, aged 49 was a
Homeworker, and living at the property was children, Iris, 24, who worked at
the Inland Revenue as a Clark Income Tax Dept. Richard, 15, who was employed as
a Errant Boy and Mary, 13.
