So, who is E. Alban Evans?

Edward Alban Evans was born 1875, son of Edward Beynon Evans and Muriel Mary Thomas.  They were married November 1874, at St. James church.

At the time of the 1881 Census, Edward aged 5 years, was living at his grandparents’ home, 22 Brunswick Street.

Thomas Evans, grandfather aged 58, who was born in Pembrey, Carmarthenshire.  His occupation is recorded as Retired Chemist.  Grandmother, Frances, aged 60 years was born in Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshire.

Also present at the property, was window Harriet Thomas, aged 83 years.  Her occupation is recorded as Annuitant, and she was born in Carmarthenshire.

Employed by the family was 46-year-old servant Ann Symons.  She was born in Powerscroft, Dorset.

At the same time, Edward’s parents were living at 18 Mackworth Villas, St. Thomas.

Edward aged 32 years.  He was born in Aberdare, Glamorgan.  His occupation is recorded as General Practioner.  His wife, Mary aged 30 years was locally born in Swansea.

Also present in the property were their three children, Ethel Francis, aged 4; Muriel M., aged 3 and 10-month-old Arthur C. T. Employed by the family were two servants, 20-year-old Elizabeth Jane Wheel and Ann John aged 23 years.  They were both born locally in Swansea.

By 1891 Census, 16-year-old Edward, was still living with his grandmother, Frances A. at 17 Mackworth Villas.

Frances aged 71 years is living on her own means, whilst Edward hasn’t an occupation recorded.  Employed by the family 22-year-old servant Mary A. Mainwaring.  Edwards’ parents were living next door at 18.

1901, Edward was House Physician (Doctor) at Swansea Hospital, at the time of the Census.  Edward obtained his medical qualifications two years earlier, 1899.

Both Edwards are recorded in the 1907 Medical Register.  Senior Edward, his address is recorded as Mackworth Villas, St. Thomas, whilst younger Edward, his residence is the Royal Navy.

35-year-old Edward, at the time of the 1911 Census, was living at 4 Northampton Place.  Edward who was a bachelor and his occupation was recorded as Surgeon.

Also present was the Housekeeper, 57-year-old Elizabeth Jenkins and 14-year-old servant, Beatrice Jenkins.

A decade later, at the time of the 1921 Census, surgeon 45-year-old Edward was still living at 4 Northampton Place.

Also present are two servants, 29-year-old Martha Davies and 31-year-old Eleanor Wellers.

Over a decade later, Edward, went to Oxwich where he going have a bathe. Sadly, Edward died resulting from drowning.

Edward was buried at Danygraig Cemetery.  His funeral was published in South Wales Daily Post, September
