George Caton

 George Caton, who was born in 1894, Norwich, Norfolk, was the son of Thomas Caton and Catherine Jenkins.

The 1901 Census, records that the Caton family home was 2 Prospect Place, Norwich.

Thomas, aged 37, is employed as a General Labourer and Catherine, is aged 38.  Their children are

Thomas, aged 16, works as a General Labourer like his father. Maud M., aged 13; William, aged 11; and George, aged 7, are all attending school.

A decade later the family have moved to 6 Hawthorne Road West, Llandaff North, when the 1911 Census was carried out.

Thomas, aged 47, is employed as a Wood Working Machinist, while Catherine, is aged 47.  The two children who are present at home are

William, 21 years old, works as a porter for a grocer, and George, 19 years old, works as a carter for a contractor.

George enlisted at Morriston, to serve during the First World War.  George served with the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry, 6th Battalion.

George was killed in action on the 1st of July 1916, and he is buried at Vlamertinghe Military Cemetery, Belgium.

The Western Mail reported George’s name has having died from his wounds on the 8th of July.


It wouldn't be until the 1921 Census, that the Caton family are recorded as living in Morriston, 84 Glantawe Street.
