Birth and Family Background

Roy Williams was born in 1908 at Swansea. He was the son of Thomas Richard Williams and Mary Matilda Hooper, who were married in 1898 at Pontypridd, Glamorgan.

1911 Census

At the time of the 1911 Census, the Williams family were residing at 12 Brynymor Crescent, Swansea. Thomas Richard Williams, aged 38, was employed as an insurance superintendent, while his wife Mary Matilda, aged 34, undertook household duties. Their children were William Ivor, aged 11, who attended school; Violet May, aged 4; and Roy, aged 3.

1921 Census

By the 1921 Census, Roy was recorded as a pupil at Queen’s College Boarding School for Boys, Taunton, indicating that he had been sent away from home for his education.

Marriage

In 1940, Roy married Violet Greenslade.

Naval Service

Roy served with the Royal Navy, attaining the rank of Leading Supply Assistant. In this role, he would have been responsible for the management and distribution of stores, provisions, and supplies, duties that were essential to the effective running of naval establishments and ships.

Death and Funeral

South Wales Evening Post 
The South Wales Evening Post reported on 2nd March 1945 that Roy Williams had died on 26th February 1945. The article stated that he had left the Royal Navy in poor health, suggesting that his death followed a period of illness rather than active service at sea.
