The passing of Albert was not officially documented until
May 1945, when it was reported by both the Herald
of Wales and the South Wales Daily
Post in an article. Before this
date, Albert had been reported missing since August 1944.
Albert, born in Merthyr Tydfil in 1917, was the son of
Albert John Reed and Lucy Lydia Bartlett.
According to the 1921 census, the Reed family resided at 11
Pleasant View, Aberfan, Merthyr Tydfil.

Albert, aged 35, was employed by Nixons Navigation
Co Ltd at Merthyr Vale as an Underground Colliery Ostler but is currently
unemployed. Lucy, aged 34, is engaged in household duties. Their children are
Winifred Ivy, aged 7; Muriel, aged 6; Albert Stanley, aged
3; and Ernest Ronald, aged 8 months.
According to the 1939 Register, Albert resides at 18
Danygraig Road and is employed as a labourer at the Tinplate Works.

In 1940, Albert enlisted and served with the Army Catering Corps, attached to the Royal Engineers. Following his death, Albert’s name is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial.
