William Alexander Johnson

William Alexander Johnson served in the 1/6th Battalion of the Welsh Regiment. He passed away on the 21st of November, 1918, at the age of 22. According to the St Peter's church Burial Register, his home address was recorded as 9 Mackworth Terrace.
William was born in 1896, son of Einar Johnson, his father, who
was born in Norway, and Mary Ann Kneath. They were married in 1888.
William Johnson is documented in the 1901 census, during
which the Johnson family resided at 13 James Street.

Einar, aged 41, was a seaman. Mary Ann was 40 years old.
Their children were
Thomas, 11; Mary, 10; Evelyn, 7; William, 4; Elsie, 2; and
Jessie, 4 months old.
Also present was Emily Johnson, 30, who is Einar’s
sister-in-law.
By the 1921 Census, Einar and Mary Ann lived at 9 Mackworth
Terrace, St. Thomas.

Einar, aged 62, was employed by the Swansea Harbour Trust as
a Dock Labourer, responsible for loading tin plates. Mary Ann was also 62 years
old. Their two daughters were present
Elsie Lilian, 22, and Jessie Edith, 20, were employed by
Manning & Co Brain Maker as brushmakers but are currently unemployed.
