David Llewellyn Williams, a Gunner in the Royal Field Artillery, 22nd Battery, 48th Reserve Battalion, died on 12th of February 1919 and is buried at St. Peter's Church, Cockett.

David, born in 1900, was the son of Daniel Williams and Jane Clements. They were married on Christmas Day, 1895, at St. James Church.

David appears only in the 1901 Census records.  The Williams family were living at 135 Mile End.

1901 Census

David, aged 23, is employed as a Stone Mason. Jane is 27 years old. Their children are

Elsie M., aged 4; David Ll., aged 1; and William C., aged 2 months.

It is unclear where David may have been at the time of the 1911 Census.  The family was still living at Mile End, Cockett.

David, aged 33, is employed as a Crane Driver in the Steel Works.  Jane is 37 years old.  Their children are

Elsie Mary, 14; William Clements, 10, both attending school; Gladys Helena, 7; David Elwyn, 5; and Henry Ivor, 3 years old.

David, who served with the Royal Artillery, was discharged from the Army in October 1918 due to being physically unfit for service.

Discharge Records

In May 1918, while at Boyton Camp, Wiltshire, David suffered from tuberculosis of the lungs and spine. His discharge records have survived.

There are no newspaper articles pertaining to David's funeral.

What transpired with the other children in subsequent years?

Elsie married Charles Haydn Godfrey at Sketty in 1923. William Clement married Ethel Ivy Morgan at Cockett in 1929. Similarly, Gladys Helen married Sidney Williams at Cockett in 1927. Daniel Elwyn married Harriet Clement. 

Jane Williams, who passed away in 1925, and Daniel Llewellyn, who passed away in 1938, are buried at St. Peters, Cockett.
