Dunkirk Memorial
The Dunkirk Memorial commemorates 4505 casualties of the British Expeditionary Force who died in the campaign of 1939-40 or who died in captivity who were captured during this campaign and who have no known grave.  There are 10 names of men who came from Swansea.

The Memorial is situated at the entrance of Dunkirk Town Cemetery




Joseph David Ashdown

Serjeant Ashdown, who served with the Welsh Guards, 1st Battalion, died on May 20th, 1940, at the age of 23. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Joseph Ashdown from Swansea and husband of Margaret Jane Ashdown from Llandyssal, Cardiganshire.

Frederick Beer

Serjeant Beer, served with the Cheshire Regiment, attached to the Pioneer Corps, Auxiliary Military. He died between June 7th and June 8th, 1940, at the age of 34. He was the son of Frederick and Mary Beer, and the husband of Phyllis Beer from Mayhill, Swansea.

William Charles Cross

Driver Cross, Royal Army Service Corps, died on 27th May 1940 at age 24. He was the son of Walter and Margaret Cross, and husband of Gwendolen Mary Cross from Manselton, Swansea.

Thomas John Dicks

Private Dicks, served with the Pioneer Corps, 50 Company Auxiliary Military. He died on June 17th, 1940, at the age of 37. He was the son of George and Sarah Dicks and the husband of Mary Hannah Dicks from Fforestfach, Swansea.

Stanley Evans

Lance Corporal Evans, of the Royal Welch Fusiliers, 1st Battalion, died on 22nd May 1940 at age 30. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Evans and husband of Gladys E. Evans of Town Hill, Swansea.

Thomas Edward Guppy

Private Guppy, served with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, attached to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, 6th Battalion. He died on 24th May 1940, aged 21. He was the son of John and Mary Guppy of Lower Cwmtwrch, Swansea.

John Haydn Jones

Corporal Jones, of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps attached to the 2nd Light Armoured Reconnaissance Brigade, died between 28th May and 2nd June 1940 at age 33. He was the son of Rees and Elizabeth Anne Jones, and husband of Charlotte Elizabeth Jones of Town Hill, Swansea.

Massineth Jones

Private Jones, served with the East Surrey Regiment, 1/6th Battalion. He died on 1st June 1940 at the age of 23. He was the son of William and Massineth Jones, and the husband of Ceinwen Margaret Jones from Swansea.

Wilfred Martin Hennessey Reid

Sapper Reid, who served with the Royal Engineers, 246 Field Company, died between 1st June and 2nd June 1940 at the age of 31. He was the son of Stuart and Jenny Reid and the husband of E. C. Reid from Brynhyfryd, Swansea.

James Harold Thomas

Private Thomas of the Royal Army Pay Corps died on 17th June 1940, aged 32. He was the son of James and Althea Thomas, and husband to Nancy from Swansea.
