Albert Leo Thomas was born in 1925, the son of Thomas Albert and Margaret Thomas. As he was born after the 1921 Census, there are no surviving official civilian records that document his early life or family circumstances, and his presence only reappears through wartime service documentation.

Albert enlisted in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, serving with 44 Squadron, based at RAF Mildenhall, Suffolk. He attained the rank of Flight Sergeant, a position reflecting both responsibility and experience within the squadron. Although 44 Squadron had been a major bomber unit during the war, it continued to operate in the demanding post‑war period as the RAF maintained its commitments across Britain and overseas.

On 3 July 1946, tragedy struck. Albert drowned after getting into difficulties while bathing in the Mill Pond at Lakenheath, a sudden and devastating loss for his family and community. Though the war had ended, the risks faced by servicemen in training and daily duties remained very real, and his death stands as one of the quiet peacetime tragedies that followed the conflict.

His body was brought home to Gower, where he was laid to rest at Bethel Calvinistic Methodist Chapel, Gowerton, returning him to the community from which he had come.
