Born in 1923, Joan Rebecca Evans was the daughter of Daniel Trevor Evans and Beatrice Adams, of Birchgrove, Swansea. Surviving records offer only limited detail about her early life, preserving little beyond her family home and the community in which she was raised.

Evans served as a Private in the Auxiliary Territorial Service, the women’s branch of the British Army, whose members undertook vital duties in military administration, communications, transport, and support roles during the Second World War.

She was killed as the result of an accident on 26th December 1941, at Luton. Joan’s body was brought home to Swansea and laid to rest at Ebenezer Chapel Chapelyard, Lon‑Las, where her grave stands as a quiet testament to her service and the life cut short in wartime.
