Early Life

Born in 1883, David Williams was the son of William and Margaret Williams, of Corner House, Brynhyfryd, Swansea. Surviving records preserve only limited detail about his early years, offering little beyond the outline of his family home and the close‑knit community in which he was raised.

Military Service

Williams served as a Rifleman in the Rifle Brigade, 11th Battalion, a formation whose men undertook essential duties in training, mobilisation, and early wartime preparation during the opening phase of the First World War.

Death

On 28 February 1915, David died at the Isolation Hospital, Aldershot, his life cut short before his battalion entered the full rigours of overseas service.

Burial and Commemoration

His body was brought home to Swansea and laid to rest in the quiet grounds of Dinas Noddfa Baptist Chapel Chapelyard, Llandore, where his grave stands as a lasting testament to his service. A further commemorative headstone to his memory stands at Kingsbridge Cemetery, preserving his name among Swansea’s early wartime dead.
