Leading Aircraftman Raymond John Ogborn, born in 1922 in Swansea, was the son of John Llewellyn Ogborn and Matilda May Ogborn. Surviving documentation of his early life is limited, though he appears on the 1939 Register, confirming his presence in Swansea on the eve of the Second World War.Raymond John Ogborn

Raymond served with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, a formation created to support Britain’s rapidly expanding air operations during the war. Young men like Raymond were trained and deployed across the country, often undertaking demanding duties in support of flying units, ground operations, and technical services.
He died on 7 December 1941 in Shropshire, while still serving with the RAFVR. His death brought deep sorrow to his family, who arranged for his body to be brought home to Swansea. Raymond was laid to rest at St Peter’s, where he is remembered among the parish’s wartime dead.
