Born in 1894 at Swansea, Joseph Walters was the son of William and Ann Walters, of Bay View, Lon‑Las. Little survives regarding his early life, and the records offer only the outline of his family home and the community in which he was raised.

Walters served as a Private with the Royal Army Medical Corps, attached to 130th Field Ambulance, a unit responsible for frontline medical care, casualty evacuation, and the treatment of wounded soldiers during the closing months of the First World War.

He died from illness on 24th October 1918, only weeks before the Armistice. Joseph was brought home to Lon‑Las and laid to rest at Ebenezer Chapel Chapelyard, where his grave remains a quiet testament to his service and the life cut short at the war’s end.
