Early Life and Family Background
Cyril George Thomas Tyrell was born in 1909 in Swansea, the son of William James Tyrell and Amy Jane Richards, who married in 1903 in Swansea.

The 1911 Census records the Tyrell family living at 13 Spring Terrace, Swansea. William James, aged 31, was employed as a dock labourer, while his wife Amy, aged 29, undertook household duties. Their two children were Cecil George (2) and Amy Adailian (6 months).

1921 Census
By 1921, following the death of William James in 1919, the widowed Amy Jane Tyrell, aged 37, was living at 94 Kilvey Road, Kilvey, Swansea, working as a newsagent. Her children were Cyril George James (12), Lillian Eileen (8), and Reginald Albert (4) — all attending school.
Marriage and Civilian Life
In 1934, Cyril married Violet Kostromin in Swansea.
The 1939 Register shows the couple living at 29 Trafalgar Terrace. Cyril was employed as a shop assistant in tailoring, while Violet undertook household duties. Their daughter, Elaine Amy, was also present in the household.1939 Register
Military Service – Royal Marines
Cyril later enlisted in the Royal Marines, serving as a Marine during the Second World War. His service placed him among the ranks of Britain’s elite naval infantry, whose duties ranged from shipboard operations to amphibious assaults and coastal defence.

Death and Burial
Cyril George Thomas Tyrell died on 5 July 1944 while serving with the Royal Marines. His body was brought home to Swansea and laid to rest at St Peter’s, where he is remembered among the parish’s wartime dead.
