John Davies – Royal Artillery
Gunner John Davies – Royal Artillery
John Davies, born in 1908 in Swansea, was the son of John Barret Davies and Annie Davies. Very few records survive that shed light on his early life, and the available documents offer only brief glimpses into his family background and later years.
In 1938, John married Winifred M. Morgan in Swansea, beginning married life just as Europe moved toward the turmoil of the Second World War.

John served as a Gunner with the Royal Artillery, one of the British Army’s principal wartime branches. His role placed him among the many Swansea men who contributed to Britain’s military effort during the conflict and its demanding aftermath.
Death and Burial
John Davies died on 2 December 1947, and his burial at Oystermouth Cemetery marks a significant moment in the cemetery’s wartime history: he is recorded as the final military burial among the servicemen laid to rest there. His grave stands as the closing entry in a long sequence of wartime and post‑war losses commemorated within the cemetery’s grounds.
