Days after the Armistice, of 1918, Brinley Chapman was the sixth military burial at Bethel Welsh Congregational Chapel

Private Brinley Archibald Richard Chapman, who served with the Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), died on 15th November 1918, aged 22 years.

Brinley born in 1896, in Swansea, was the son of Richard H. and Sarah J. Chapman nee Tucker.

Richard Henry Chapman and Sarah Jane Tucker were married in May 1895, at St. James church, Swansea.

The married couple at the time of the 1901 census were resident at 13 Rhondda Street, Swansea.  Richard, 32, was employed as a Post Office Clerk.  Sarah, 33.  They had three children, Brinley A. K., 5; Cyril G., 3 and Richard H., 1.

A decade later 1911, the census records that the family had moved to 13 Vivian Street. Richard, 42 is still employed by the Post Office. S. J., 43.  The three children are still living at home, Brinley, 15; Cyril George, 13 and 10-year-old Richard H.  Also present is sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Tucker, 52, who is a Shop Keeper (Confectioner).

It wouldn’t be until October 1918, that Brinley enlisted to serve in the Machine Gun Corps.  His address at this time was 79 Argyle Street.
