Rev. Harry Carrow

 In this second talk stones blog about St. Teilo’s, we will see the connections between St. Teilo’s and St. Andrew’s, Loxton.


At the time of the 1881 Census, living at 50 Trafalgar Terrace is Harry Carrow, 67, who is a Clergyman of Church of England Without Cure Of Souls.  Also present at the property, is Elizabeth, 39, daughter and Housekeeper for Father and George Edward, 22, Student of Metallurgy.

By 1887, Harry died at Axbridge aged 74.  He was buried at St. Teilo’s.  He is buried with his second wife, Amelia, who died 1881 at Mumbles.











Harry was born 1814, Redland, Gloucestershire.

By the time of the 1851 Census, Harry is residing at the Rectory of St. Andrew’s, Loxton  Harry by this time is 37 and his occupation is Rectory of Loxton.  Amelia, 34. Her place of birth is Sri Lanka.  Present also are their four children, Elizabeth, 9; Richard, 6; William Pattron, 4 and Joseph Henry, 3.  Employed by the family are three servants, Charlotte Richars Stone, 30; Chairty Baker, 28 and Ann Henderson, 20 and Governess, Catherine Brice Wilson Winter, 23.

By 1861, still resident at the Rectory, Harry, 47.  Amelia, 43 and their three children, Elizabeth, 19; Jane, 18 and George Edward, 2.  Employed are two servants, Henritta Day, 17 and Ann Good, 17.

It is here within the churchyard, of St. Andrew’s, that’s Harry’s first daughter, Emma, who died 1847, aged 3 and wife, Leah aged 34 died 1848 are buried.








1871 Census, the family have moved to 98 Tapster Street, Chipping Barnet. Harry, 57, is a Clergyman of the Church of England.  Amelia, 52 and two children, Jane, 28 and George E., 12.
