Wilfred Cecil Morgan
Wilfred Cecil Morgan is the second airman buried at Bethel Welsh Congregational Chapel.

Aircraftman 2nd Class Wilfred served with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve and died 29th October 1940.

Wilfred born in 1921, was 3 months old at the time of the 1921 Census, 19th June 1921, and was the son of Owen and Minnie Morgan.

2nd December 1900, Owen Morgan married Minnie Jones at St. Pauls Mission Church, Landore.

The 1911 Census, records both Owen and Minnie residing at 1 Hopkins Row, Swansea. Owen, 31, is employed as an Upholster. Minnie is 29.  The children also present are Herbert Clifford, 10; Lily May, 7; Alfred Thomas, 5; Owen Ernest, 3 and 1-year-old Victor Hugh.

1911 Census

A decade later, in 1921, the family expanded and resided at 1 Hopkins Row. Owen, 40, has his account as a Upholster. Minne, 39 undertakes Home Duties.  The children present are Herbert Clifford, 20; a Upholster employed by O. J. Morgan, Stand, but unemployed—Lily May, 17, also undertaking Home Duties. Alfred Thomas, 15, who is an Errand Boy, is also unemployed. Owen Ernest, 13; Victor Hugh, 11; Minnie Gladys, 9; Gwilym John, 7; Arthur Gwyn, 2 and 3-month-old Wilfred Cecil.

South Daily Wales Post published articles in 1933 and 1935, following the West Glamorgan Presbytery Scripture examinations, Wilfred was a pupil of Alexandra Road Sunday School.

Wilfred played rugby for the Swansea Barbarians before that played for the schoolboy teams.

31st October 1940
1940, Wilfred lost his life at Royal Air Hospital, Lancashire, after developing peritonitis following an operation for acute appendicitis.  Wilfred was only 19 years old.

Wilfred had only three weeks previously joined the R.A.F., following a strenuous medical examination.

Wilfred’s body was brought home and buried at Bethel.  His grave doesn’t have a military headstone.
