With a week left before the Armistice of 1918, P. L. Searle was the fifth military burial at Bethel Welsh Congregational Chapel.

Driver P. L.  Searle served with the Royal Engineers, “A” Depot Company, Royal Anglesey Reserve Battalion, and died on the 3rd of November 1918 aged 25.

Philip Llewellyn Searle was born in 1893, in Swansea, and was the son of Edwin Searle and Mary Jane Wilmot.  They were married at the St. James Church, Swansea in February 1888.

Edwin was born in 1867, in Truro, Cornwall.  1881 Census, Edwin, 14, is employed in a Working Shop (Boy) and resides at his family home, 27 Cwm Road, with his parents, Matthew and Catherine Searle both 56.  Also present are siblings, Clara A., 18; Richard, 16 and Frederick, 13.

1891 Census, married couple Edwin, 24, and Mary Jane Searle, 25, reside at 18 Mysydd Terrace, St. Johns, Swansea.  Edwin is employed as a Weigher.

A decade later, in 1901, the couple resided at 17 Carnglas.  Edwin, 36, is a Market Gardener. Mary J., 35.  They have two children, Philip Ll., 8, and Hilda May, 5.  Also present is a servant who assists with the Market Garden, Richard Bebell.

1911 the family at the time of the Census live at 27 Tycoch Road.  Edwin, 44 is employed as Insurance Agent. Mary Jane, 45, undertakes the Home Duties. Philip Llewellyn, 18, is employed as an Undertaker. Hilda May, 15, is employed as a Draper Assistant. There are two younger siblings Phyllis Irene, 6, and Gertrude Mary.

During the duration of the First World War, Phillip, who was an old Territorial, had seen active service, including during the Dardanelles Campaign died suddenly at Beaumaris Hospital, Bangor.
