Daniel was born in 1878, the youngest son of Irish-born Jeremiah
Donovan and Sarah Ann Davies, who were married in 1875.
During the 1881 Census, the Donovan family was residing at
14 Anne Street.

Jeremiah, 49, was employed as a Marine Dealer. Sarah Anne was 30 years old. their children were
Jeremiah, 20, who, like his father, was employed as a Marine
Dealer. Daniel, 5, and 2-year-old
Margaret.
Also present was 75-year-old Owen Golicher, who was also a
Marine Dealer.
Jeremiah died in 1886.
By the time of the 1891 Census, Sarah, aged 46, was widowed and
still lived at 14 Anne Street. Her children

Daniel, 14, who was employed as a General Labourer. Margaret, 11; Anorah, 7; William, 9; and 5-year-old
Sarah A., all attended school.
1897, Daniel married Ellen Blake.
By the time of the 1901 Census, Daniel, 24, was living at
his parents-in-law's home, 10 Anne Street.

Charles Blake, 67, was invalid. Ellen was 57 years old. Their daughters were Ellen, 26, and 15-year-old
Mary. Ellen is still recorded as a Blake
rather than a Donovan.
Also present is Daniel, 24, who is employed as a General
Labourer, and his children Jeremiah, 3, and 1-year-old Ellen.
Charles’ other grandchildren present at the property were
George Bregnan, 10; John Bregnan, 12; and 10-year-old Mary E. Bregnana
Following the census, Daniel was sent to prison for 10 days
for Drunk and Disorderly.

Charles Blake died in 1903.
By the time of the 1911 census, Daniel was residing with his
widowed mother-in-law at 34 Charles Street.

Ireland-born Ellen was 67 years old.
Present at the property were her daughter Ellen Donovan,
30. Daniel, 33, who was a Labourer.
Their children were Jeremiah, 13; Ellen, 11; Sarah, 8;
Charlie, 3; and 1-year-old Willie.
Ellen’s other grandsons who lived at the property were John
Bresnan, 23, employed as a Carter and George Bresnan, 24, who was employed as a
Labourer.
Daniel died at a Bristol hospital on the 10th of June
1917.

The South Wales Daily Post reported his death the following day, and his funeral at Danygraig Cemetery was reported in the Herald of Wales.
