Stanley Griffiths

 Stanley Griffiths and his eldest brother, David Daniel were the only sons of David and Sarah Ann Griffiths.

Stanley was born in 1897.

At the time of the 1901 Census, David Griffiths was 46 years old Police Sergeant.  He and his family resided at the Police Station, Llangefelach.

His wife, Sarah, 43.  Their children were

Elizabeth, 25, who was a knitter; Jane, 23, was a shop assistant, Eleanor, 22 and Edith, 18, were tailoress.  Mary Ann, 13; Maggie, 11; Rebecca, 9; Emma Grace, 9; Daniel David, 6; Stanley, 4, and Agnes, 15, who was a knitter.

The family moved to 50 Iorwerth Street, by the time of the 1911 Census.

David, 56, who is now a Police Pensioner.  Sarah Ann is 53 years old.  Their children present at the property were

Mary Ann, 23, a milliner.  Dressmaker Rebecca, 19. Emma Grace, 18, who was a domestic. David Daniel, 16, who was employed as a Tin Plate Trade Tender. Stanley, 14, was employed as a office boy.

Stanley enlisted on the 10th of August 1914 and served with the Welsh Regiment during the First World War.  Stanley died on the 4th of June 1917 following wounds received at Loos at home and was buried at Danygraig Cemetery.  His funeral was reported in the South Wales Daily Post 

David Daniel, was killed on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1st July 1916, and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
