Ernest Richard Edwards

 Ernest Richard Edwards was born in 1906, was the son of George Edwards and Margaret Ann Davies, who were married in 1880, at St. Mary.

Ernest was the youngest son of George and Margaret at the time of the 1911 Census, the Edwards family were residing at 90 Robert Street, Manselton

George, 52, was a Traveller; Margaret Ann, 47.  Their children were

Lillian, 22; Robert Thomas, 19; John Graham, 17, who were both employed as Tinhouse Behind Worker; Herbert Ewart, 12, and 5-year-old Richard Ernest.

John served during the First World War with the Royal Navy, first enlisting in August 1914.

At the time of the 1921 Census, the Edwards family had moved to 77 Courtney Street, Manselton.

George, 62, who was a Tailor Traveller, employed by W. Williams Tailors; Margaret Ann, 57, who undertook the household duties.  Their children present

Herbert Ewart, 23, who was also employed by W. Williams Tailors, as a Tailor Traveller; Ernest Richard, 15, who attended school.

John Graham, 28, who was a Doubler Tinplates, employed by R. Thomas & Co., Steel Tinplate, however, was out of work.  Also present was John’s wife, Elsie Murton, 25, who undertook household duties and their daughter 1 year old Betty Margaret.

29th May 1940, Ernest died at a military hospital, at Gloucester.  He was buried at Oystermouth Cemetery, and his funeral was reported in the South Wales Daily Post.
