Percy Wilks

Percy Wilkes
 Finishing his education, Percy Wilks, was employed by the Cambrian Daily Leader as a junior reader.

Born in 1898, Percy was the youngest son of Benjamin Wilks and Jane Evans.

At the time of the 1901 Census, the Wilks family were resident at 56 Argyle Street.

Benjamin, 45, and 44-year-old Jane.  Their children were

George, 24; Sarah, 20; Benjamin, 18, who was employed as Furniture Polisher, Frank, 16; Daniel, 15, both of whom were employed as Upholster (Apprentices); Beatice, 10; Sidney, 5 and 3-year-old Percy.

The family had moved to 18A Richardson Street by the time of the 1911 Census.

1911 Census

Benjamin, 55 was employed as a Commercial Traveller.  Jane was 54 years old.  Their children present at the time of the census were

Daniel, 25, Upholsterer Employer; Beatrice, 21, Masters Help; Sydney, 16, Shop Assistant and Percy, 13 years old who still attended school.

The Ides of March 1915, Percy, enlisted and joined the 6th Battalion, Welsh Regiment, his Attestation Papers having survived

Herald of Wales
26th of April 1916, Percy, was accidently shot whilst on active duty in Pembrokeshire.  His death was reported in the Herald of Wales.
