John William Kneath was born at the turn of the century, 1900.

John was the son of John Kneath and Charlotte Annie Greenslade, who were married in 1881.

John, who was recorded in the 1901 Census, as Harold, was living at 7 Milton Terrace, Swansea.

1901 Census

John, 39, who was employed as a Greaser Refiner.  Annie who was 37.  Their children were

Phillip, 16, who was employed was a Joiner; Annie, 12; Llewellyn, 10; George, 7; Albert, and 1 year old Harold.

At the time of the 1911 Census, the family moved to no.5 Milton Terrace.

John, 51, who was employed as a Brattice Cloth Maker.  Annie was 49 years old.  Their children present were

George, 17, who was a Joiner; Albert, 11who was a Apprentice; Harold, 11, and Florence, 8, who both attended school.

John William, who served with the East Lancashire Regiment, 10th Battalion, died on the 19th of October 1915.  The Army Registers of Soldier’s Effects, 1901-1929, records that John died at the Swansea Fever, and was buried at Danygraig Cemetery.

There is not a military headstone, of the Kneath family grave, and the inscription regarding John William Kneath, is wearing away.
