George Bowden

 6th of February 1917, HMT Longset was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-46, 2 miles southeast of the Breaksea lightvessel wreck. 8 persons were lost.

George Bowden, who was buried at Danygraig Cemetery.  His funeral as published by the South Wales Daily Post was an impressive funeral.

George, who was born in 1871, Cornwall. Was the son of George Bowden and Jane May.

The 1871 Census, George who only a month old.  The family were living at 63 Carland, St. Erme, Cornwall.

George and Jane were 35 years old.  Their children were

Frederick, 8; James H., 7; Eldsea, 5, who all attended school.  John, 1, and 1-month old George.

A decade later, at the time of the 1881 Census, George now aged 10 was living at 2 Mitchell, St. Erme, Cornwall.

George, 45, was employed as a Lead Miner.  Jane was 45 years old.  Their children were

Fred, 19, employed as a mason; James H., 17, employed as an Ag Lab; John, 11; George, 10, and Emily, 4, all attended school.

The 1891 Census records that George now is 20 years old is a lodger residing at 73 Trelowarren Street, Camborne, Cornwall.
