Early Life and Family Background

Dolphin Price was born in 1908 in Llansamlet, Swansea, the son of William Price and Elizabeth Morgan.

1911 Census

The 1911 Census records the family living in Llansamlet, where William, aged forty and born in Radnorshire, worked as a fitter labourer (general). His wife Elizabeth, aged thirty‑six and born in Herefordshire, managed the home. Their children present were Mabel, seventeen; Sydney, fifteen; Edith Maud, twelve; and Dolphin, aged four.

By 1921, the Price family were living at Jawe Road, Llansamlet. William, now fifty‑one, was employed as a labourer at Richard Thomas & Co., Tinplate Manufacturers, while Elizabeth, aged forty‑six, continued her household duties. Their only child still at home was Dolphin, aged fourteen, who was attending school.

Marriage

In 1925, Dolphin married Elizabeth J. Clarke in Swansea, establishing his own household during the interwar years.

Military Service – RAFVR

Dolphin later enlisted as an Aircraftman 2nd Class in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, serving at RAF Millom, Cumberland, a station heavily involved in training aircrew for coastal and bomber operations.

Death and Burial, February 1944

On 16 February 1944, Dolphin Price was killed in an airscrew accident, one of the many tragic non‑combat incidents that occurred during intensive wartime training. His body was brought home to Llansamlet and laid to rest at St. Samlet Churchyard, where his grave stands among the parish’s wartime burials.
