Trevor Hughes – Royal Artillery, 93 Battery, 34th Light Anti‑Aircraft Regiment

Gunner Trevor Hughes – Royal Artillery, 93 Battery, 34th Light Anti‑Aircraft Regiment

Early Life

Trevor Hughes was born in 1907 at Pontypridd, Rhondda Cynon Taf, the son of Thomas Hughes and Jane Hughes. Very few civilian records survive for his early years, and the only documented milestone before the war is his marriage to Lily Maud Fitzgerald in 1929, at Swansea. This union marks the sole glimpse into his domestic life before military service.

Military Service

Trevor served as a Gunner with the Royal Artillery, attached to 93 Battery, 34th Light Anti‑Aircraft Regiment. Units of this type were responsible for defending military installations, industrial centres, and vulnerable points against enemy air attack. Their duties were demanding, often carried out under hazardous conditions, and required constant readiness during the height of the Second World War.

Later Life and Death

Trevor was invalided out of the Army, indicating that illness or injury had forced his discharge from active service. He died on 2 February 1945, during the final months of the war. His death forms part of the wartime losses recorded in Swansea during that year.
