 Charles Harold Billington

Charles was born 1891 in Hale, Lancashire, was the son of George Billington and Mary Radley.

1901, Charles is aged 9 years at the time of the census.  The Billington family were living at 53 Cocklade Lane, Hale.

1901 Census

George, 50, was employed as a Labourer on the Roads. Mary aged 47 years.  Their children were

Albert E., 26, who was employed Teamster on Farm; Robert J., 23, who was also a Teamster on Farm. Emily A., 18; William J., 16, who was a Gardener’s Labourer; Charles H., 9 and 6-year-old Lavinia B.

Also present was boarder Frederick J. Burrows, 14 who was a Farm Ag Boy.

Charles was at the time of the 1911 Census, was living with his brother-in-law, William H. Wright and his family.

The Wright family were living at Pepper Street, Hale.

William, 29, Labourer; Lily E. A., 28.  Their children were George E. A., 7; Edith M., 4 ; Mabel E., 2 and 7 month old Marion.

Charles H., 20, who was a Labourer.

The following year, 1912, Charles married Sarah A. Thomas

During the First World War, Charles served with the Welsh Regiment, 14th Battalion.

By the time of the 1921 Census, Charles and Sarah were living at 17 Lamberts Cottage.

1921 Census

Charles, 29, Fuelworker Pressman employed by Phoenix Fuel Company, Kings Dock, sadly unemployed.  Sarah Ann, 28.  Their children were

Mary, 7; Leslie John, 4 and 1-year old George.

The family were still living at 17 Lamberts Cottage at the time of the 1939 Register.
