 The Brookwood 1939-1945 Memorial, situated in Brookwood Military Cemetery commemorates 3,327 casualties of the land forces of the Commonwealth who died during the Second World War, and have no known grave. 

Brookwood Military Cemetery is the largest military cemetery situated in the United Kingdom.

So, one of the names that is commemorated on the memorial is Trevor Merchant.

Warrant Officer Class II Trevor Merchant, served with the Royal Welch Fusiliers, 7th Battalion.  Who died on the 1st of April 1943, aged 33 years.

Trevor was the son of John Herbert Merchant and Mary Julia Davis, who were married in 1888.  Trevor was born in 1908.

By the time of the 1911 Census, Trevor is recorded to be living at the family home, 183 Pentre Treharne Road.

John, 45, whose occupation is recorded as a Traveller.  Mary who is 40 years old.  Their children are

Evangeline, 20; Herbert, 18, whose occupation is Tube Worker at Landore; William R., 16, who is a Traveller Draper; Gladys, 11; Dorris, 8; Glyn, 5; Mirian, 4; Travor, 3; Prudence, 2, and month-old Katie.

During the First World War, Richard William, was killed on 10th of March 1918, who served with the Welsh Regiment, 1st/5th Battalion, and was buried at Jerusalem War Cemetery.

At the turn of the 1920s, Julia died aged 50.

The family by the time of the 1921 Census is recorded as living at 185 Tuhphie Road, Landore.

John, 55, was employed as Credit Drapers Traveller.  The remaining children at present are

Doris, 17, who undertook household duties in place of mother; Glyn, 15, who was unemployed; Miriam, 14; Trevor, 12, and 8-year-old Katie, who all attended school.

Acton Gazette
St. Pauls church, at Northfields, Ealing, was where Trevor married Elanor Jane Owen, in 1935.  At the time of the wedding Trevor is already serving with the Welch Regiment, who was billeted locally.  The wedding is reported in Acton Gazette.

By the time of the 1939 Register, Eleanor has returned to 52 Talfan Road, Landore.

Sadly, what happened to Trevor after his death remains a mystery.
