James Griffith MacDougall
St. Thomas and Swansea East side has been home for people from all different parts of the United Kingdom.
One of those families who settled at St. Thomas at the time
of the 1921 Census, was the McDougall family, who lived at 7 Kilvey Terrace.

James, 32 years old, was Marine Engine Fitter Ship
Repairing, employed at Prince of Wales, Swansea Docks, however out of
work. James was born at Invernesshire, Scotland. His wife, Cassie, 31, who undertook the household
duties, was born in Clydach. James and
Cassie nee. Griffiths were married in Swansea 1914.
Their children, Frances Mary, 5, who was at school, and
James Griffiths, 3. They had been born
in Elswick, Northumberland. Whilst born
in Swansea, Maggie, 2, and 2-month-old Donald Frank.
James died in later in 1921, and was buried at Tomnahurich Church,
Inverness.
By the time of the 1939 Register, James, was residing at 4
Wallace Terrace, with his mother Catherine and sister May.

James’s occupation was recorded as a Seaman.
The following April, James married Ann L. Chesterman.
Later that year, September, James was a crew member of Highland
Brigade, which had docked at Liverpool from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Merchant Seamen Death records don’t record the cause of
his death.
