Private John Peter Menkavitch served with the Welch Regiment, 30th Battalion, and died on the 22nd of March 1942.  John was buried at Danygraig Cemetery.

Son of Henri and Cassie Menkavitch was on in 1905.

There are no census records that record the Menkavitch family in Swansea, the only record that does is the 1939 Register.

John, along with his widowed mother, Cassie, and a younger sibling, Joseph, were living at 32 Pentretreharne Road.

John’s occupation is a Tailor.

Whilst on army manoeuvres in Cardiff, John with two other soldiers, slipped and fell 20 feet into a whirlpool.

All the men were killed, and the inquest was heard, the verdict was returned as “Death by misadventure”. The South Wales Daily Post reported the River Death.
