 Thomas Charles Stiens

Thomas was born in 1899, the son of Albert Thomas Charles Stiens and Mary Elizabeth Crowther, who were married in 1886.

At the time of the 1901 Census, the Stiens family were living at 20 Wern Terrace.

Albert, 36, was a Spelter and Furnaceman.  His place of birth is recorded as Southampton.  Mary, 37.  Their children were

Tamzin, 14; Mary E., 11; Albert, 7; Brinley, 4 and 1-year old Thomas C.

By the 1911 Census, Thomas was 11 years old, and the family are now living at 38 Wern Terrace.

Albert, 47, is a Furnaceman Zinc; Mary is 47 years.  Their children are

Albert Thomas, 17, is a Labourer; Brinley, 14, Labourer; Thomas, 12; Elsie, 9; Joseph, 6, and 8-year-old David, all of whom attended school.

A decade later, at the time of the 1921 Census, the family is still residing at 38.

Albert, 57, hasn’t had an occupation due to being disabled.  His place of birth is now recorded as London. Mary, 57, undertakes the House Hold Duties.  Their children who are present are

Albert Thomas, 26, Smiths Stricker, employed by Baldwins Tinplate, Kings Docks, but was out of work; Thomas, 22, Wagon Repairer, employed by British Wagon Co. Ltd; Elsie, 20, who is a Shop Assistant working at Hart Photographer, Salubrious Passage; David, 17, who is also a Wagon Repairer and Joseph, 16, who is a Roller Cold Roll, employed by Baldwins Tinplate, Kings Docks, but was out of work.

The following year, Thomas married Mary H. Rourke.

At the time of the 1939 Register, the Stiens family are living at 8 Jersey Villas. Thomas’ occupation is recorded as Fireman Merchant.

Thomas is buried at Danygraig Cemetery.
