John Phillips

 John Phillips

John was born in 1895, Abergwilly, Carmarthenshire, was the son of William Phillips and Sarah James.  They were married in 1891.

The 1901 Census records the Phillips family as living 8 White Mill, Abergwilly.

William, 34, is a Clog Maker.  Sarah, 32.  Their two sons are John, 6 and 1-year old Thomas.

The family have moved to Port Office, Whitemill, Abergwilly by the time of the 1911 Census.

1911 Census

Clog Maker William is 45, whilst Sarah is 42 years.

John, 16 is Clerk and Thomas, 11.

By 1921 John has moved to Swansea, and he is a boarder at 67 Vincent Street.

John, 25, is a Clerk, employed by the Borough Treasurer, however out of work.

The following year, 1922, John has married Doris M. Strawbridge.

The 1939 register records the couple as living at 67 Norfolk Street.  John’s occupation is Dock Labourer (Heavy Worker)
