Dennis William Lewis

 

Dennis William Lewis at the outbreak of the Second World War, enlisted and joined army and served with the Royal Artillery, ranked as Gunner.

Prior to the outbreak, Dennis served with the Territorial Army.

Dennis, who was born in 1920, and he was the son the of William Henry Lewis and Elizabeth Wilcroft.

At the time of the 1921 Census, the family were living at 29 Fabian Street.

William, 39, was born in Staffordshire was employed as GWR Engine Driver, employed by GW Railway Company.  Sarah, 35, who was born in Berkshire.  Their children were

Hilda Annie, 11, who was born in Berkshire, who was at school, whilst Dennis, 1 year old was born in Swansea.

Dennis, who went to St. Thomas School, and after school, Messrs Baldwin employed Dennis at the King’s Dock.

Dennis killed in action on the 3rd of December 1942, North Africa, and was buried at Massicault War Cemetery, Tunisia.
