Thomas George Herbert

 Families mean a lot

In 1914, Albert J. Herbert and Margaret E. Williams were married, and that same year, their son, Thomas George Herbert was born. With further children, Reginald Wanford born in 1915 and Winifred born in 1917.

At the outbreak of the First World War, Albert, enlisted to join the army, serving with the Kings Royal Rifle Corps, 10th (Service) Battalion.  September 1914, Albert was declared unfit.    The following year, 1915, Albert enlisted joined the army again, and he served with the Royal Engineers, Transportation Branch.

Margret died in 1919.

At the time of the 1921 Census, Albert, is a lodger living at 12 Rutland Street.  His occupation is recorded as Stoke Steelwoker.

The children were living with their grandparents.  Albert was living at 18 Sebastolpol Street.  The home of Thomas and Annie Mary Williams.

Whilst Reginald W., 5, and Winifred, 3, were living at 10 Brynforgan Terrace, Ynisforgan, the home of George and Elizabeth Herbert.

Thomas, served as a Cook Steward with the Merchant Navy onboard the M.V. Gaitinais.

M.V. Gaitinais was a British cargo motor vessel which was torpedoed 5nm 190 degrees from Start Point on the 3rd of December 1942. She was on route from Portsmouth for Llanelly with a cargo of scrap iron. 9 crew killed.
