 12th November 1940, Lance Serjeant Henry Lewis, who serve with the Royal Engineers lost his life. 

Henry was the younger son of Nathan Lewis and Kezia Campbell, born in 1907 in Cardiff.

At the time of the 1911 Census, the Lewis family were living at 44 Stouhgton Street, Cardiff.

Nathan, 38 was a Marine Fireman, whilst Kezia was 39 years old.

Their children were Mary L., 16, who was a Sugar Boiler; Gladys, 13; George, 10; Annie Maud, 8; Henry, 4, who were all attending school.  Lucy Lewis the youngest child aged 1 years old.

Also present at the property on census night was boarder Frederick Markland, 24, who was a seaman.

There doesn’t seem to be a 1921 census return for the Lewis family.

The next record is Henry’s marriage certificate of June 1928, when Henry married Lucy Jane Dyer, at All Saints Church, Kilvey.

Henry’s address at the time of the marriage was 2 Kilvey Hill.

Henry and Lucy were living at the outbreak of the Second World War at Robert Owen Gardens, however, only Lucy is recorded on the 1939 Register.

Following Henry’s death, he was buried at Danygraig Cemetery
